World Humanitarian Day
Blog by Bettina Reid | August 19th, 2013
World Humanitarian Day is all about people helping people around the world.
Today marks the beginning of a month long campaign to raise funds for those in need, but it also marks the day because it was on this day in 2003 that 21 aid workers were killed in a bombing at the UN headquarters in Baghdad.
This year's campaign is a unique one as they plan to turn WORDS into aid. What a great idea, they are very right, as they say on their website that "Words are the most powerful currency we have". Why not use them to create shelter for those in need, or to supply food for those that are hungry. For World Humanitarian Day they have created the World's first marketpalce for words where you can sponsor a word and raise money to support humanitarian needs around the World.
If you haven't seen Kid President you have to watch his interview with Beyonce in support of promoting World Humanitarian Day
He is an amazing kid who inspires us all to help others. Click on the link to see his video.
Anything is possible and the support for God's Little Acre Farm is another example of people helping people. The owner has been overwhelmed by the number of volunteers that have come out to help.... I don't imagine anymore food will go to waste this year! Just goes to show you that every little bit counts, I can only imagine what this yera's World Humanitarian Day campaign will do...with something as simple as WORDS!
